COMMISSIONER OF CUSTOMS, AHMEDABAD

The Customs Commissionerate, Ahmedabad set up in 1983 having jurisdiction over the entire state of Gujarat , and Union Territories of Daman , Dadra & Nagar Haveli, has since been bifurcated into Ahmedabad and Jamnagar Commissionerates with effect from 01.11.2002. Now, the new Ahmedabad Commissionerate has three Customs Divisions at Ahmedabad, Surat , and Valsad, one Air Cargo Complex at Ahmedabad, an International Airport at Ahmedabad. Besides, there are Five Inland Container Depots (ICD) at Sabarmati in Ahmedabad, Surat , Valvada, Vadodara and Ankleshwar. It also has one Foreign Post Office (FPO) at Ahmedabad. Also, there is a Container Freight Station at Adalaj, Ahmedabad. To thwart any attempt of smuggling, the Ahmedabad Customs Commissionerate has positioned various units such as Shore Guard (S.G.) parties, Road Checking Parties (RCP), etc., at various strategic locations in the Commissionerate. The staff deployed at S.G. are basically involved in Coastal patrolling. The area covers the entire coastal belt falling in its jurisdiction. The S.G. units are equipped with CPCs to effectively carry out coastal patrolling at short notice. As these boats require very little draft, is possible to sail from anywhere. These CPCs used for coastal patrolling can undertake sorties for a period of 8-10 hours before returning to the base for refueling.
